my favorite non-toxic diaper rash remedies!
ugh. as a first time parent i was SO naive.. like no way will sage get a diaper rash (insert nose stuck up in the air here). LOL. well within a few days of being home from the hospital we had a full blown diaper rash situation on our hands (i think we went through 14 diapers in one day HAHHH we had ZERO clue what we were doing — also newborns pee + poop A LOT)!
we’ve tried quite a few different diapering products but i’m breaking it down to include all of my favorites
diaper spatula – okay i hate having excess stuff and this might sound like one of those ridiculous baby gadgets that you don’t really need.. but let me tell you… diaper balms and creams are GREASY AF and you really don’t want to stick your fingers in the jar, get it under your nails, wipe a butt, then have to close up the diaper and get them dressed while you spread the oily mess everywhere. we use this EVERY FREAKING DAY x8 or however many times sage gets her diaper changed LOLOL. MUST HAVE. and grab this set and keep the mini one in your diaper bag – TRUST ME
okay now for diaper creams: these fall into two classes for me – a balm that we use daily that’s thinner and more preventative and then a diaper cream that you use when you have a serious rash on your hands
favorite diaper balms for everyday: we use these a few times a day, not every diaper change but maybe every other and always coat her little bum well before bed to protect it from being in a wet diaper overnight
these are both really similar – ingredients and price point – i use them both. amazon sells them but i purchase on thrive market for $$$ savings. (shoot me a message if you want a discount code for thrive market)
coconut oil: kind of an in between, can use it daily as a balm but can also be used on a rash, it’s an antifungal so if you have a rash that is looking yeasty give this a shot before you go for the antifungal cream
BROWNED FLOUR! like literally normal flour from your pantry, nothing fancy here. if your baby has a bad diaper rash this works SO FLIPPING FAST like you will not believe it. there is nothing i love more than a good old-fashioned, homemade remedy. don’t ask me how it works, i haven’t got a clue. literally pour flour into a pot and stir until it browns (keep it moving so it doesn’t totally burn / stick). let it cool, i put it into an old spice container so i can just shake it on. definitely lay a towel or blanket down first because it can get a little messy. put this on at night and you will not believe the difference by morning.
young living seedlings diaper cream – zinc oxide – this is the “most severe” cream for when you really can’t get rid of the diaper rash with anything else. i didn’t discover the browned flour trick until sage’s second diaper rash so i literally haven’t touched this since her first week home from the hospital. *if you purchase from young living and don’t already have an account or someone you shop with, i would be so grateful if you used my member number: 3448130
i also wanted to mention, that if your baby is constantly getting diaper rashes that are not clearing up quickly, you may talk to your provider and take a look at your diet. the first time that sage got a diaper rash i would say that was due to parent error, using so many wipes, not letting her bum dry before putting a new diaper on etc. but the second time we were doing ALL of the things and it was not improving until i discovered the browned flour. since i eliminated dairy we have not had a diaper rash. we have an occasional time every now and then when she looks a little pink, using some balm or just a sprinkle of flour clears it right up.
hope this helps! let me know your favorite diapering solutions in the comments!
